Three new Federal Highway Administration grants worth more than $3.3 million will improve mobility and safety at key interchanges in the Denver area, U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta announced today.

"The grant money will improve several key routes and keep the economy moving," said Secretary Mineta. "As our economy continues to grow, the Bush Administration continues investing in transportation projects that fuel opportunity and prosperity in communities across America."

The largest grant, which totals $2,884,216, will go toward completion of the interchange at Interstate 25 and Broadway. The interchange currently sees an average of almost 200,000 vehicles each day and is expected to increase in coming years.

Another grant for $288,422 will help make various improvements to the Interstate 70/Highway 58 Interchange.

The third grant for $162,237 will improve the interchange at Interstate 25, U.S. 36 and Interstate 270. The grant will go toward construction of a new ramp from eastbound I-270 to eastbound I-76.

"President Bush knows that transportation investments are ensuring that goods make it to store shelves, and helping drivers in Colorado get to work and home again safely and on time," said Federal Highway Administrator Mary E. Peters.
