Eligibility
- To qualify, you MUST be a continuing student enrolled or accepted for enrollment for the current/upcoming semesters for the duration of the internship as a condition of employment, taking at least a half-time course load. You will be required to provide documentation to support eligibility. Students may be employed throughout the academic year.
Duties
This is a developmental position with Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Department of Transportation (DOT). The position is designed to provide student trainees with challenging assignments that will broaden their perspectives on issues facing the government and prepare them for future positions. You will
o Draft and edit documents.
o Assist in the management and tracking of support requests.
o Assist in developing and maintaining documents, sites, logs, lists, and other pertinent information.
o Assist team members in developing and managing internal and external web and SharePoint updates for the office content, including building Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) and managing the logical structure of websites.
o Use available software tools, such as Microsoft 365 Apps (e.g., SharePoint, PowerPoint, OneDrive, Word, Excel, Forms, PowerBI, and others) to complete work tasks.
o In addition, you will serve as a backup to other team members in the areas of writing, editing, and web applications.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify for a GS-04-
Completion of two (2) academic years of post-high school study (undergraduate) or an associate's degree.
To qualify for a GS-05-
Completion of four (4) academic years of post-high school study (undergraduate) leading to a bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree.
To qualify for a GS-07-
Completion of one academic year of graduate level education (above a bachelor's degree); OR eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement* provision, as defined in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Operating Manual for Qualification Standards, and completion of a bachelor's degree.
*Superior Academic Achievement (Bachelor's degree) - In the upper one-third of graduating class; OR a GPA of 3.0 or higher out of 4.0, as recorded on official transcript, or based on courses completed during final 2 years of curriculum; OR a GPA of 3.5 or higher out of 4.0, based on average of required courses completed in major or required courses in major completed during the final 2 years of curriculum.
Promotion Potential:
This position has promotion potential to the GS-11.
Position Information:
- This announcement will be used to fill temporary appointment (for an initial period not to exceed 1 year), or a term appointment (for an initial period expected to last more than 1 year but less than 4 years), to coincide with the individual's academic curriculum and calendar.
Conversion to Permanent Workforce:
Post-secondary students can be converted to a permanent appointment in the competitive service, prior to their expiration date within the agency, without further competition. The student must have completed the course of study leading to a graduate degree, has completed at least 640 hours of current continuous employment, meets the qualification standards for the position to which converted and must meet time in grade requirements.
Telework Eligibility:
This position is approved for occasional telework. The number of telework days approved is determined by the agency policy, emergency situations, the approval of your immediate supervisor, and if applicable, approval of additional officials. You are required to report to the office on a regular basis since this is not a full-time telework position or approved as a remote work position.
Work Schedule:
Student Trainee hours worked cannot interfere with academic studies. You may work either full-time or part-time hours.
