Project Details

Project Description: 

Phase II: Utilize loop amplifier electronics to analyze duration of pulses from existing inductive loops at a higher frequency to identify unique vehicles and facilitate identification and reidentification of these vehicles as sample probes passing over sequential inductive loop sensors.

Goals:

Evaluate whether it is possible to enhance existing loop sensor amplifiers to measure and track a subset of vehicles to create anonymous travel time and origin-destination information for a subset of the vehicle population.

Project Findings: 

Phase I demonstrated that it was possible to create an accurate estimate of travel times over short lengths. Phase I also found software changes that have to be made to controller algorithms to allow sampling of the data.
