The existing bridge was built in 1940. Linville River Bridge consists of 3 earth-filled stone veneered concrete arches (306 feet long) and stone faced concrete wingwalls (about 200 feet long). The bridge drainage system investigations revealed deterioration of the existing cast iron and clay drains within the earth-filled interior. The project will replace the existing internal drainage system. The bridge is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway and can be accessed from US Route 221 (Linville Falls Highway) from the south and from State Route 181 from the north.
