Old Divide Road and S Fattig Creek Road

Project Description

Old Divide Road is a portion of the old alignment of U.S. Highway 87 between Roundup and Billings, MT in Musselshell County. The southern end of Old Divide Road is located approximately 20 miles south of Roundup, and the northern end is approximately 15 miles south of Roundup. The proposed Old Divide Road project corridor is 6.5 miles in length bounded by the intersections with U.S. Highway 87.

South Fattig Creek Road is located approximately 4.7 miles north of the southern end of Old Divide Road and accesses the Signal Peak coal mine. The proposed South Fattig Creek Road project corridor is 2.0 miles in length, extending from Old Divide Road to the end of the pavement.

Problem Description

Old Divide Road from MP (mile post) 0.0 to the intersection with Fattig Creek Road at MP 4.7 is in poor to fair condition, while the roadway surfacing is in fair condition from MP 4.7 to MP 6.5. Numerous pavement failures were observed along the roadway including transverse cracks the full width of the roadway (24 feet), partial transverse cracks ranging 3-10 feet long and longitudinal cracks.

South Fattig Creek Road, from the intersection of Old Divide Road to MP 1.0 is in very good condition. The road is in fair condition from MP 1.0 to MP 2.0. Several isolated areas of pavement distress and deterioration was observed.

Scope of Work

The proposed project will overlay the existing pavement on Old Divide Road and apply a chip seal on South Fattig Creek.
