Lane 6 North

Project Description

Alamosa County and the Federal Highway Administration, Central Federal Lands Highway Division (FHWA-CFLHD) in cooperation with the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, are proposing improvements to Lane 6 North. The route is approximately 16 miles long and is an east west connector between State Highways 17 and 150. The route serves the local community and region primarily as a farm to market route; and access to Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, San Luis Lakes State Park, Zapata Falls, Bureau of Land Management lands, and Forest Service lands. The existing pavement has outlived its service life. The surface is severely deteriorated and there are areas of subgrade failure. The proposed improvements include resurfacing, restoration, and rehabilitation of the roadway. The proposed width will be two, 11-foot wide travel lanes with 1-foot wide paved shoulders.
